Stand Out from the Crowd: 3 Simple Tips to Improve Your Resume

3 Simple Tips to Improve your Resume Before Applying to Jobs in Berkshire County

"I'm tired of sending my resume to companies and not getting any responses." Sound familiar? If this is your problem, don't fret. There are many ways to make your resume stand out from the rest. In this article, we will discuss how you can use your personality, skills, and accomplishments in order to write a stellar resume that will get noticed!

Tailor Your Resume to the Company

Resumes are very similar to clothes. They can be easily outdated, generic, and not representative of what you have to offer a company. Just as an ill-fitting suit would make someone feel uncomfortable going on a job interview, so will a resume that doesn't fit the type of position you're applying for. There is no way that a resume will stand out if it is the same as every other applicant. This means that you have to tailor your resume to each company for which you are applying to.

This is not something difficult or time-consuming, either. You can easily find information about what companies are looking for through their job postings and websites. For example, if you were applying for a marketing position, you could look up the company's website and see what they were looking for. If you can find this information easily on their site (in an About Us or Careers section), then that is fantastic! However, if it isn't readily available to you online, there are other ways you can determine what they are looking for!

Keep it Concise

If you have been filling your resume with every single accomplishment that you've ever had, it's time to take a step back. Keep in mind the purpose of a resume: "to help employers determine if they should call YOU for an interview." This means that your accomplishments need to be concise and relevant! If all four pages of your resume are filled with every little thing you've ever done, including the time that you volunteered in your free time to feed hungry children (even though this is a wonderful accomplishment), then it will be difficult for employers to determine which of these accomplishments are truly relevant.

When deciding what information should say and what can go on your resume, ask yourself if this particular accomplishment will help you get an interview. If it won't, then leave it out! This is another reason why tailoring your resume to the company is so important. The skills that are most relevant for a marketing position may not be as applicable in a science-based field or vice versa. It's all about being specific and choosing only those accomplishments that will help you get an interview!

Make it Visually Appealing

Your resume should be aesthetically pleasing to look at! Employers can quickly get bored scrolling through four pages of text, so it is important that you make your resume visually appealing. One way this can be done is by using bullet points instead of paragraphs. This will allow employers to scan through your resume more easily and pick up on the most relevant information. Another way you can make your resume visually appealing is by including some sort of design elements, like a creative header or colored sections!

This does not mean that employers are looking for resumes with an artistic flair. It simply means that using simple tools such as bullet points and color will help catch the eye of potential employers more easily than a standard resume. This is not something that will drastically increase your chances of getting an interview, but it can be a nice touch to help you stand out in the pile of applications!
