Assistant Café Manager

Position Summary:
The basic function of the assistant café manager is that of a working manager. The assistant café manager oversees the opening, closing, daily, catering and maintenance procedures. Ensures the efficiency of the staff, sets priorities, controls labor as a percentage to sales, minimizes product loss according to company standards and ensures accurate pricing. Lives, eats, and breathes the Marketplace Customer Services Standard.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees, Opening, Closing, Daily, Catering and maintenance procedures
- Developing strategy for creating roles and mentoring, for Team Leaders to gain expertise in specific areas
- Assessing and modifying systems for efficiency and communication/training new procedures
- Maintains The Marketplace philosophy, principles, and standards
- Keeps and effective stream of communication, with the Manager, Team Leaders, and staff with regularly scheduled meetings and records meeting minutes for documentation
- Works within the daily operations to improve efficiency, quality, and output, and holds team members responsible for line speed at designated minutes per order per location
- Troubleshoots and resolves, problems with facility, equipment, technology, and communicates with the Manager
- Oversees consistency of product preparation as per recipe; building sequence, portions of ingredients, pressing technique and plating/presentation of both “here” and “to go” items
- Oversees staff education of all products offered at The Marketplace
- Oversees staff education of our community missions, supporting local, promoting healthy lifestyles, wholesome and fun, as well as supporting local artists and musicians (per location) and verbally promoting this on a regular basis, encouraging employee investment in our missions
- Promotes and mentor’s excellent customer service to staff and oversees customer relations training
Safety and Sanitation
- Oversees safety and sanitation training and monitors safety and sanitation procedures
- Oversees that all staff are aware of and compliant with the uniform, dress code, hygiene and hair/beard standards of The Marketplace and addresses any issues immediately
- Oversees that the Café is always ready for Health Inspection excellence
- Oversees that the restroom facilities and outside seating areas are clean and safe to the highest standard
Food Related
- Oversees quality, taste, temperature, freshness of food products from all vendors and supervises Kitchen Manager/Line Cook and ordering. Navigates daily specials and supply issues
- Oversees presentation of all products, Beverage Case, Pastry Case, Fresh Food Case and retail area
- Responsible for overseeing the organization, quantity, cleanliness, and systematic approach of all products both perishable and non-perishable within the operation
- Monitors menu effectiveness; item sales, price, margins, adjusting pricing as per the Managers direction
Human Resources Responsibilities – Assists Café Manager with:
- Maintains employee schedules and manages staffing with regards to sales
- Maintains and reports weekly excel docs for forecasting and “actual” labor cost with adjustments for % of goal
- Manages any employee conflict adhering to The Marketplace Philosophy and Principles
- Manages the hiring and firing of staff members and conducts employee reviews when the Manager is not available
- Maintains and organized/secure system for employee documents and employee issue documents
- Navigates employee interactions and disputes and determines proper course of action and referral as per The Marketplace policies under the supervision of the Manager
- Oversees orientation and training of new employees and Team Leader training in all areas of operation and implements new training as necessary
- Hold all staff members accountable for excellent customer service standards
- Leads as an exemplary role model for customer-employee interactions
- Leads as an exemplary role model for employee-employee interactions
Back Office Responsibilities
- Oversees all monetary transfers, deposits, and reconciliation procedures
- Monitors all daily back-office transactions: pay outs, discounts, gift certificates, house charges, on a daily basis and addresses abnormalities with responsible staff and communicates them to the Owners
- Manages/supervises office procedures and invoice procedure for transfer to Sheffield office
- Manages changes and maintains the POS system and updates, troubleshooting when necessary
- Oversees accurate ear-end inventory, recording and reporting
- Oversees all technology, phone, and Wi-Fi systems, troubleshooting and maintaining as necessary
Research and Development
- Continuously researches trends, products and lifestyle choices that can potentially increase revenue stream while keeping consistent with all company directives
