GCC Packaging Technician in Adams MA

Salary: $27.38/hr (temp-to-hire)

Schedule: 10p – 6a (plus OT)

Location: Adams, MA


NOTE:  must be able to pass a drug screen (No THC) and background check.  This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.


Job Summary

The GCC Packaging Technician is responsible for packaging limestone products in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards, operating packaging and material handling equipment, loading finished products for shipment, and processing shipping transactions through company systems and established operating procedures.


Responsibilities:

Manual Packaging and Semi-Bulk Operations

  • Perform equipment startup and shutdown activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections and equipment checks as required by MSHA and company safety standards.
  • Operate packers and semi-bulk packaging systems, making adjustments to maintain product quality and accurate bag weights.
  • Operate support equipment, including sack compressors, Tennant sweepers, and Hi-Vac systems.
  • Fill LP gas cylinders in accordance with established safety procedures and operating standards.

 

Material Handling and Shipping

  • Perform equipment startup, shutdown, and required safety inspections.
  • Review shipping orders and identify products for shipment.
  • Receive, unload, and properly store packaging materials.
  • Load packaged products onto flatbed and enclosed trailers according to approved loading patterns, customer requirements, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and ship products in compliance with customer specifications and company procedures.
  • Complete all shipping documentation accurately and timely.

 

Palletizer Operations

  • Perform startup, shutdown, and inspection procedures for palletizing equipment.
  • Configure palletizers, bag applicators, printers, and related systems to customer specifications.
  • Calibrate metal detection equipment at the beginning of each shift.
  • Verify proper operation of check-weighing systems and utilize the Vorne production monitoring system.
  • Operate and monitor palletizing equipment, making adjustments as needed to ensure product quality and packaging integrity.

 

Henschel Operations

  • Follow established startup, shutdown, and inspection procedures.
  • Operate the Henschel system through the Honeywell control platform.
  • Perform lubrication and routine operator maintenance activities in accordance with standard work procedures.

 

Henschel Cleaning and Sanitation

  • Lock out and tag out equipment in accordance with company safety procedures.
  • Inspect equipment to identify required cleaning areas and filter maintenance needs.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble equipment using appropriate tools and approved procedures.
  • Restart the system and conduct test runs following cleaning activities.
  • Complete all required cleaning and maintenance documentation.

 

Equipment Troubleshooting


Palletizer Troubleshooting

  • Utilize system controls and visual inspections to diagnose operational issues.
  • Perform minor repairs within the scope of operator responsibilities.
  • Initiate work orders and assist maintenance personnel when advanced repairs are required.


Henschel Troubleshooting

  • Analyze system performance using computerized controls and visual inspections.
  • Perform minor corrective maintenance and adjustments.
  • Submit work requests and support maintenance personnel in resolving equipment issues.

 

Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including:
  • 5S
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Daily Management Systems
  • Standard Work
  • Problem-Solving Activities
  • Lean Manufacturing Initiatives

 

General Responsibilities

  • Record labor, production, and operational data accurately.
  • Enter shipment and production information into company systems.
  • Complete safety inspections and required documentation.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards through 5S activities.
  • Submit maintenance work requests as necessary.
  • Communicate operational status and shift information during shift transitions.
  • Operate forklifts and other mobile equipment to move products and materials safely throughout warehouse and production areas.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with equipment repairs when required.
  • Train and mentor employees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

Experience: Previous manufacturing, production, packaging, shipping, receiving, warehouse, or industrial experience is preferred but not required.

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Additional endorsements or certifications may be required based on equipment operation and business needs.
  • Must meet all applicable federal, state, and company requirements for vehicle and equipment operation.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot automated packaging and production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, shipping, warehouse, and production processes preferred.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to enter data and utilize company software systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment operation and maintenance principles.
  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate solutions, and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and contractors.
  • Ability to train and share knowledge with others when requested.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Read and interpret labels, shipping documents, operating procedures, and safety information.
  • Visually inspect products, equipment, and work areas.
  • Demonstrate awareness of surroundings and react appropriately to changing conditions and equipment issues.
  • Maintain productivity while working around moving equipment and production systems.

Work Schedule: Must be available to work assigned shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.

 

Safety Requirements

Employees are required to comply with all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, and site-specific procedures.

Refresher training will be conducted as required by company policy and applicable MSHA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
