Carpenter’s Assistant Job Opening in Berkshire County, MA

Pay:  $19-24/hour depending on experience

Hours:  Mon – Thurs, 7a-5p

Job Type:  Direct Hire

TEC is helping recruit for a Carpenter’s Assistant with a Southern Berkshire County contractor. This candidate would need to have a minimum of 5 years experience and be able to run a job at the work site by themselves in case the supervisor is not there.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintaining / inventorying first aid kits and reporting shortages to the Job Supervisor
• Materials handling, storage
• Making sure all necessary staging, ladders, roof brackets, planks, are on the job as needed
• Making sure all protective equipment such as drop clothes protective floor covering, poly sheeting, and moving blankets are in place as necessary
• Making sure all power cords and airlines are supplied as necessary 
• Maintaining power tools sign out sheets and notifying Job Supervisor of any inconsistencies 
• Directing and assisting with setting up, and taking down all artificial lighting 
• Directing and assisting in temporarily weatherproofing structures and materials
• Moving all paints, adhesives, caulking and any other liquid substances which are damaged by freezing, to a suitable location until danger of freezing has past
• Capable of supervising and overseeing all employees under this classification
• Overseeing all employees of a lower classification 
• Any other tasks which may be assigned 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Beginning to develop a level of proficiency with measuring tools [strong familiarity with tools]
• A basic knowledge of materials application
• Understanding layout symbols, and is capable of accurate wall assembly (flush surfaces, tight plates and shoes, etc.)
• A grasp of nail spacing (floors vs. walls, vs. roofs etc.)
• Capable of installing and cutting wall and roof sheathing 
• The ability to interpret and maintain tool and sign-out sheets
• The ability to efficiently organize tools, equipment and materials
• Beginning to become familiar with “standard procedure” within the carpentry trade and company policy
• Beginning to become familiar with the Building Code
