How to Answer the “Why Should We Hire You?” Question in an Interview: 5 Tips and Strategies

Tips on How to Answer the "Why Should We Hire You?" Question

When interviewers ask the question, "Why should we hire you?" They are looking for two things: first, they want to see if you have the skills and qualifications that match the job; and second, they want to get a sense of who you are as a person. In order to answer this question effectively, you'll need to do two things: first, identify the key qualities that the employer is looking for; and second, give specific examples of how you have demonstrated those qualities in your previous work experiences.

But don’t worry, we’re here to help! In this blog post, we will provide tips and strategies on how to answer this question effectively. Follow these tips, and you will be sure to impress your interviewer!

1. Do Your Research

Before the interview, take some time to research the company and the specific job you are applying for. This will help you understand what qualities the employer is looking for in a successful candidate. Tailor your resume and cover letter to demonstrate why you would be a great fit for this job. Getting help building a professional resume ensures that your resume is up to date and prepared.

2. Identify Your Key Strengths

Once you have done your research, identify your key strengths that match the job requirements. Some strengths that come to mind for a job include: communication skills, organizational skills, the ability to work independently, as well as problem-solving skills. However, it is important to tailor your strengths to the specific job you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for a job that requires a lot of customer interaction, then communication skills would be a key strength to highlight. If you are applying for a job that requires a lot of attention to detail, then organizational skills would be a key strength to highlight.

3. Give Specific Examples

When you are asked the question in the interview, be sure to give specific examples of times when you have demonstrated these qualities in your previous work experiences. This will help the employer see that you have the right skills and attributes for the job.

For example:

‘When I was working as a marketing intern, I came up with a new strategy for improving customer engagement that ended up increasing sales by 20%. Finally, I have always been very detail-oriented and organized in my work. This has helped me to produce high-quality work, as well as stay on track and meet deadlines.”

4. Highlight Your Unique Selling Points

In addition to highlighting your key strengths, be sure to also highlight your unique selling points. This could be anything that makes you stand out from the other candidates. Employers want to see that you’re motivated and eager to succeed in the role. Manifest this opportunity and say to yourself “I will get this job.”  And, make sure that you come across as enthusiastic and positive throughout your application and interview process.

5. Keep Your Answers Concise

When answering questions, be sure to keep your answer concise and to the point. The employer does not want to hear a long-winded story about your life experiences. They just want to know why you are the best candidate for the job.

You want to make sure that your answer is relevant to the specific job you’re applying for. And you want to focus on highlighting your unique qualifications and skills that make you the best candidate for the job. Try to avoid sounding arrogant or cocky in your response.

Here’s an example of how you might answer this question:

“I believe I would be a great fit for this position because of my strong communication skills and my ability to work well under pressure. I have a proven track record of being able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and stay calm under pressure, which I believe makes me an ideal candidate for this position.”

Keep in mind that your answer to this question should be tailored to the specific job you’re applying for. Take the time to read through the job description carefully and make sure that your answer highlights your qualifications that are most relevant to the position.
